View with non-proportional font. Keep this email for future reference. Structure: / home (actually "/usr/local/etc/httpd/sites/censorware.org/") /cgi-bin/ /htdocs/ All documents to be served by HTTP. This corresponds to "http://censorware.org" or "http://www.censorware.org". /index.html will be the main page /admin/ information about CWP - bios, etc. /censorware/ information about the various products/companies /cwp/ CWP reports /essays/ Assorted essays about censorware, 1st Amd., etc. /FAQ/ self-explanatory /forces/ Explanation of govt and corporate forces promoting censorware /IFF/ Civil liberties vs. corporate liberties /images/ All images for entire site /legal/ Legal papers and legal news /links/ Links to friends and foes' websites /news/ links to current news stories /PICS/ PICS, ratings and labelling coverage /press/ Press releases and press contact info /shame/ List of corporations and gov't agencies employing censorware /stats/ Site statistics The first page in each sub-directory should be "index.html", which will be displayed when an URL like: http://censorware.org/press/ is accessed. That page can link to any other pages within that subdirectory. The very top page of the site will be a frameset which links to those top pages of the sub-directories. All images for the site should be in /images/ to avoid any needless image reloading, so image links in the subdirectories will look like this: The top page frameset will include links to the other sub-directories as I said. Actually, there's room for growth there - if not all sub-directories have been developed by whenever we want to go live, they simply won't be linked from the top page. Please refer to the site as "censorware.org" rather than "www.censorware.org" although both will work for WWW access. I hate the "www." prefix, for no good reason. I hope people will review what materials they have for inclusion in the site and even start putting them up. The CWP reports, Seth's archives about PICS, Jonathan's papers about censorware in libraries, more or less everything on http://www.spectacle.org/cs/ , much of the material at http://www.mit.edu/activities/safe/labeling/summary.html , much of the material on Peacefire's censorware web pages, etc. etc. etc. I think this is an excellent opportunity to pull all this together and make it easily available. Consider what sub-directory above your information or links might best be placed in, or if none seem to fit just create another. If anyone wants to do anything with cgi's, well, knock yourself out. There are also standard mailform and counter cgi's available for use for the site. As for the development of the /subdirectory/index.html pages, I have prepared a template, called "template.htm" in the base directory. You can download that file, modify it to create the subdirectory main page, and upload it as "/subdirectory/index.html". I don't think it's terribly necessary to have pages under those in a uniform format if conversion is difficult, so you could link to raw text pages from there or whatever (I'm thinking Seth's archives could be time-consuming to dress up.) But at least the top page or two will look nice. :) Please keep everyone informed of what you may be doing with the subdirectories to avoid duplication of effort. An example of what I plan for the site to look like is up at: http://censorware.org/index2.htm Unless someone has some killer graphical design suggestions, this is it. FTP: An FTP account has been set up with full access to everything. You can FTP to "censorware.org" with account name "cwpstaff". The password will be sent by separate email. I expect everyone will treat access to the site intelligently. If anyone thinks the account/password has been compromised, let me know and I'll change it immediately. Mail: I have also set an account for mail which is to be sent to all six of us. The account is "cwp@censorware.org". Due to technical difficulties implementing that on the virtual server, mail for cwp@censorware.org is sent to me at inch.com, where procmail grabs it and forwards it to the other five addresses and I. This is not a perfect solution but should work. I plan to give that address for press inquiries, so that they can get a response from one of us with maximum haste. The main mail account associated with censorware.org is "censor". I haven't yet set up my mail program to POP mail sent to that account. All other mail sent to censorware.org is by default sent to jellicle@inch.com. I can set up forwarders and the like if y'all want addresses like "seth-the-flamer@censorware.org" or whatever. Transmission ends. -- Michael TOP SECRET TOP SECRET TOP SECRET TOP SECRET TOP SECRET TOP SECRET
